romeo must die - jet's visit to japan
Posted: May 2000

Day 1 : Monday, May 8, 2000

Jet departed for Tokyo on Sunday, May 7, to begin a short promotional tour. After an uneventful and smooth flight Jet arrived at Narita International Airport.

It was Monday afternoon, May the 8th in Japan and some reporters and TV crews, as well as some professional autograph seekers, came out to greet Jet.

Jet didn't sign any autographs at the airport but later, when he arrived at the hotel, he signed quite a few of them.

Dinner took place at a very nice restaurant in the Roppongi district. The entire Warner Brothers group, including Joel Silver and Aaliyah were there as well. With the time zone change and jet lag setting in, Jet turned in early.

Day 2 : Tuesday, May 9, 2000

It was a bright and beautiful May day in Tokyo. Jet started his day interviewing with various Japanese television programs and newspapers.

One journalist was a big fan of Jet's work and presented him with a very large and very cute gift . . . a statue of the Lucky Japanese cat.

In between the continuous afternoon of interviews Jet managed to grab a quick lunch at a New York style steak house. It was quite an experience -- interview upon interview all through the afternoon.

After the interviews were over Jet finally had a chance to go out and look around. He went to Times Square at Shinjuku and was impressed by the giant department store!

After Shinjuku Jet travelled to the movie theater where the premier of Romeo Must Die was playing. The theater was crowded with Jet fans. Some even brought their own banners.

After speaking on stage Jet decided to sneak in to the back of the theater and watch the movie until the conclusion of the prison fight scene. He hid so well no audience member knew he was even there!

Then once again Jet went out to eat. This time for some delicious tepanyaki.

the last event of the evening was a Warner Brothers hosted party in Shibuya. Unfortunately the lighting was too dark to take any photographs.

Jet met lots of people at the party and was getting tired, so he went back to the hotel and called it a day. Tomorrow's schedule should be equally busy ...

Day 3 : Wednesday, May 10, 2000

Jet has a half day today. in the morning he was interviewed by a very famous Japanese television variety show. The host was this cute girl who spoke loudly and made a lot of jokes. She gave Jet a lot of gifts, and she showed Jet this very strange contraption for Jet to autograph...

After the interview, Warner Brothers held a huge press conference for Romeo Must Die. Joel Silver, Aaliyah, and Jet attended. Jet fielded questions and posted for photos.

With the trip coming to an end, Jet finally had a chance to meet with his Japanese fan club. They presented him with a lot of cool gifts for his daughter, Jane. After about an hour of chat and photos, Warner Bros. people finally called a reluctant end to the gathering.

In the afternoon, Jet had a chance to go and visit the north Shibuya area and the Taito-ku area. He was out looking . . . searching for antique beads . . .

Dinner was at this very good Japanese sushi restaurant with Joel Silver playing host.

Thus ended the Japan RMD trip.
